I, Penguin is a conversation between myself and a taxidermy Little Blue penguin from the collection of the Booth Museum of Natural History. Performed on 17 November 2018 at an evening of presentations by artists and academics from the University of Brighton to an audience of interested folk.

Wondering what it is that we are looking at when the object of our gaze was once a living creature? Informed by the ‘creaturely poetics’ of film theorist Anat Pick, herself considering Simone Weil’s reflections on vulnerability, I sat with the penguin over several sessions to see, if I listened to it, what it would say.
